Linocut print on paper

This series of linocut prints explores my personal experience with the surfing lifestyle through an artistic lens. The designs are sketched, carved and printed by hand.

I started learning to surf on the Outer Banks of NC in 2021, and it's been a contrasting journey of challenging lows and unforgettable victories. For a couple years I questioned how skilled I needed to be before I could identify with the culture; but despite countless moments of discouragement I still yearned to paddle out again and again. In 2023 I moved to the small coastal town of Byron Bay, Australia, and was immersed in a vibrant female surf community that strengthened my confidence in and out of the water. My passion for chasing waves with friends washed away my anxiety and fueled a dedication to improving my abilities.

Just like surfing, printmaking is an evolving process of trial and error in pursuit of a moment of perfection. Having recently moved from North Carolina to Colorado, it's my way of reflecting on how far I've come in my surfing experience and patiently passing the time until I can get back to the ocean again.
